Dear Missourians,

I am running for Secretary of State to restore fairness and integrity to the office. The most critical part of the Secretary of State’s job is to make sure our elections are fair. Fairness requires the Secretary of State to be a neutral arbiter in all questions regarding elections.

Our current Secretary of State has violated her duty as the state’s chief election officer by injecting herself into the sacred right of Missourians to petition their government. Missouri law requires the Secretary of State to write ballot language that is sufficient and fair. She has failed to honor her duty. The courts have twice rebuked her this year for writing “insufficient and unfair” ballot language. Missouri courts define “insufficient and unfair” to mean, “to inadequately and with bias, prejudice, deception and/or favoritism state the consequences of an initiative.”

In other words, our current Secretary of State wrote ballot language that would have deceived voters or attempted to manipulate voters into voting a certain way. This is an outrageous act of partisanship in an office that by definition needs to be non-partisan.

As your Secretary of State I pledge to fulfill my duties to all Missourians fairly. I promise to write ballot language that is “sufficient and fair” regardless of the issue and regardless of my personal opinion about that issue.

Sincerely,
Mitchell Hubbard
