Defending Fair Elections

As Secretary of State, Mitch will write sufficient and fair language for voters regardless of the issue. Mitch strongly believes the Secretary of State is obligated to be a neutral arbiter in all questions regarding election results and ballot initiatives. Mitch is running for Secretary of State to restore fair elections.
The fairness of elections in Missouri has been compromised by deceptively written ballot titles. The courts have found our current Secretary of State’s ballot language to be insufficient and unfair twice this year; which means “to inadequately and with bias, prejudice, deception and/or favoritism state the consequences of the initiative.”1
The Secretary of State is the chief election officer in the state of Missouri. There is no room for bias, prejudice, deception, and/or favoritism in that office. The integrity of Missouri elections has been violated and we have an obligation to restore fairness.

Election Integrity

Voter ID

Election Integrity requires that every eligible voter be afforded the opportunity to vote. It also requires a system that prevents election fraud.
As Secretary of State, Mitch will dedicate his office to eliminating election fraud. This will require common sense steps to verify the eligibility of voters and at the same time ensure that no voters are disenfranchised.
One way to prevent voter fraud is to require voters to present a photo ID. Mitch strongly supports a voter ID law that provides assistance for seniors, the disabled, and poor to obtain a photo ID.
As Secretary of State, Mitch will work with voters, county clerks, the legislature, and the governor to assist eligible voters in obtaining a photo ID.

Efficient State Government

As Secretary of State, Mitch will order an audit of the office to determine where efficiency can be increased and money saved. He will work with the legislature to develop an incentive program for employees who recommend ways to save money or increase efficiency. Mitch will also work with citizens, businesses, and county clerks to improve services, decrease red tape, and promote business in Missouri.
